LETTER FROM THE EDITORS
"I suffer no illusions that this will be an easy process. It will be hard. But I also know that nearly a century after Teddy Roosevelt first called for reform, the cost of our health care has weighed down our economy and the conscience of our nation long enough. So let there be no doubt: health care reform cannot wait, it must not wait, and it will not wait another year."
– President Barack Obama, February 24, 2009
With such strong words being uttered by the recently elected 44th President of the United States, we can be sure that we are in the midst of a sweeping change in our industry. Regardless of our personal political convictions, or our agreement with the proposed legislation, we can rest assured that we are on the verge of a great debate with even greater implications for the future of health care in this country. The question we must ask ourselves: are we prepared for this intense and momentous discussion? |

As vested stakeholders in the health care industry, HFMA members will be looked upon to provide clarification and guidance on health care issues raised by these discussions. To be well-versed in these issues, we must take care to fully educate ourselves through numerous outlets available to us. We need to take advantage of HFMA resources, local and national news sources, and conversations with other health care stakeholders.
It is our hope that we can help by bringing relevant information to you through our online newsletter. If we attempt to achieve great things on our own, we will most likely flounder. If we attempt to achieve great things together, we are much more likely to succeed and in fact become the change we wish to see in the world.
