Event: Spring Institute Seminar

March 18, 2010
Location: Cira Centre at 30th Street Station
CPE: 6 A&A and 1 Other Credit
Agenda

Dear HFMA Colleague:

The Program and Education Committee of the Metropolitan Philadelphia Chapter of HFMA is pleased to present our Annual Spring Institute.  The Institute will be held on Thursday, March 18th at a new location that we think everyone will enjoy, The Hub at the Cira Centre located at 2929 Arch Street

Our keynote speaker is Alan Miller, the founder, chairman and CEO of Universal Health Services.  Mr. Miller’s session is titled “Healthcare Reform that Makes Sense: A detailed Plan to Improve the Health Care System”.  Mr. Miller isn’t shy about expressing his opinions on national health-care reform.  In fact, he has written a book on the subject.  The 149-page paperback is called “Health Care Reform That Makes Sense.”  It carries the subtitle: “A Detailed Plan to Improve America’s Health Care System from the Country’s Leading Health-Care CEO.”

The book was published during the height of the Health Care Reform debate last December and we are honored to have him join us.  In his book, Miller concludes, “We are at a crossroads today with regard to health care and, in particular, insurance reform.  Why not tackle the manageable aspects of the issue, the problems we know we are able to address and improve rather than overhaul the whole system through a public option.”

Among Miller’s recommendations include: Allowing insurance companies to sell policies across state lines, making insurance portable by promoting the use of health spending accounts, preventing insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, and providing tax credits for people who purchase health insurance on their own.

Mr. Miller’s company, Universal Health Services Inc. (UHS) of King of Prussia, turned 30 years old this year. UHS operates 137 hospitals in 32 states and Puerto Rico, employs more than 38,000 workers and generates annual revenues of more than $5 billion.
Registration is scheduled to begin at 7:30 am.

Attendees are requested to dress business casual for this event.
